The Cincy Red Stockings proved the regular season was no fluke defeating their divison rival Jersey 4 games to 2. Cincy’s Tom Gordon was selected series MVP on the strength of 2 wins and a save in 4 appearances.

Game #2 -- 2-1 Jersey (10 innings)

Jerseys Melvin Mora homers off of Cincy reliever Juan Padilla to give Jersey a 2-1 win and tie the series at 1-1.

Game #3 -- 6-3 Jersey

Cliff Floyd drills a two out three run homer off reliever Eric Gagne in the bottom of the 7th to take a 6-3 lead. The Damage bullpen hangs tough holding Cincy scoreless the rest of the game. Series now 2-1 in favor of Jersey.

Game #4 -- 8-6 Cincy

No pitchers dual as Cincy wins 8-6 tying series at 2-2. The hitting heroes for Cincy were Walker and Ellis who each drove in two runs. Turnbow picks up his first save of the series.

Game #5 -- 9-6 Cincy

No repeat of the game #1 pitching duel as Burnett is roughed up for 4 runs in the 1st and a run in each of the next 3 innings. Cincy forges out to a 7-0 lead and holds on to win 7-5. Cincy is now up 3 games to 2.

Game #6 -- 6-4 Cincy

Jersey is unable to hold a 4-2 lead in the 7th as Cincy goes on to win 6-4 and claim the ALDS title.
